Match Report - HeartsofOak vrs Asante Kotoko

Accra Hearts of Oak extended their winning run to 11 matches and stayed 3 points clear at the top of the Premier League as Barnieh's strike was enough to secure victory over a resilient Kotoko.

Barnieh fired home the goal that probably nailed the season for Hearts of Oak with a neat lay-off from Ansah-Botchway to keep Samuel Boadu’s side in control of the title race.

Second-placed Kotoko who are in serious contention with Hearts of Oak gave a good mark of themselves at the Accra Sports stadium.

With what seems to be a sweet victory, Hearts stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games (League and FA Cup) and they don’t seem to show any sign of resting on it.

After about 10 minutes into the game, Emmanuel Nettey got injured after fighting off for a ball against Gama. He developed a groin injury and had to be stretched-out and replaced by the man who provided the assist, Ansah-Botchway. Hearts players, who appeared determined, took the game to Kotoko and eventually outplayed them.

The execution of the goal was fantastic – Ansah’s pass barely got off the ground and man of the match Afriyie made a swift turn and hit the ball that ran straight into the net, giving Hearts of oak a memorable victory. It was a notable moment because at a point fans were on edge.

“We are disappointed because of all the work we did before today, we deserve the other result. The best team won.” Said Bareto.

Hearts are three matches away from being crowned league champions. Next match is against Ebusua Dwarfs and will be hoping to continue the unbeaten run.
