Konadu’s brilliance powers Hearts over Kotoko:

A goal from Konadu Yiadom and an assist from Linda Mtange were enough to hand Hearts of Oak all 3 points, a trophy, cash and an additional bragging right over archrivals, Kotoko.

The match started at 3:30pm amidst a charged atmosphere. The league match that doubled as the President’s Cup saw the presence of the President of the country, His excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the ECOWAS President, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray . There were other important dignitaries at the stadium who graced the occasion.

Referee Adentura Jacob was the man at the centre of the game. The game saw immediate chances squandered by both sides but largely from Hearts of Oak in the opening minutes of the game. In one of those chances Obeng Junior who was exceptional in that game made a run into the vital area of Kotoko and placed a begging chance on the path of Eonde but a timely clearance from the Kotoko defence prevented an early goal. An immediate reaction followed quickly from the opponent but a well prepared defence of Hearts of Oak were ready.

The game became very intense as the game wore on. With both sides dictating the midfield in search of the opening goal. The game went into recess with no goals.

The beginning of the second half looked different as Hearts of Oak continued with the purposeful football all in search of victory. The pressure became more and eventually paid off in the 57th minute as Hearts was awarded a freekick for an infringement on Amankwa Baafi. Mtange positioned himself to take the freekick. He took a tailor measured cross and the high flying Konadu Yiadom headed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Danlad into the net for the only goal of the game.

Hearts tried to get more goals as Kotoko also searched for an equalizer but goalkeeper Ayi was in his best to keep a clean sheet for Hearts.

Accra Hearts of Oak again won the President’s Cup for the second time running. A year to brag, a year of another dominance over “Yaanoom”. Kotoko will have to wait for another year to make another attempt at the President’s Cup if called upon.
