Matic's superior tactics breaks Medeama’s 7-year home record against Hearts of Oak

Despite the shortage of players due to injuries and 5 players to national team assignment to the on -going CHAN competition in far away Algeria, Coach Slavko Matic dug deep into his tactics to present a squad that played to perfection to pull off the maximum 3 points through Obeng Jnr. This victory is the first in the Akoon Park. Hearts’ last victory in Tarkwa was in 2016

The victory over Medeama certainly is a historic victory breaking their home invincibility and puts the Phobians in a very good position on the league log.

To make up for the player shortage, the coach had to improvise and played Amankwah Baafi at right back and captain Inkoom to the left back position. Both players played to perfection to the joy of the fans that watched from the stands.

The team quickly unsettled Medeama in order to be able to carry out the tactics that had been rehearsed by the entire team leading to this game.

The team made their intentions known immediately the game began and they were rewarded with a goal in the 33rd minute when Clinton picked a ball from an Atinga clearance and laid a pass to Obeng whose shot was initially blocked. Clinton made a run to it but was also blocked but the ball finally fell on the path of Obeng Jnr who quickly slotted it into the top left corner of the net for the only goal of the afternoon to give Hearts the win in matchday-14 of the BetPawa Ghana Premier League.

Hearts never relented in search for additional goals. Whiles Medeama were also keen on getting the equalizer, the intelligent performance from Hearts’ defence men and the brilliance of goalkeeper Ayi kept the team in the game. Ayi made point blank saves to deny Medeama any opportunity of an equalizer in the second half of the game. Certainly this is a valuable points that can be credited to the tactical brilliance of Coach Matic who ensured that his team played to specific instructions as he stood on his feet for the entire duration of the game.

The team will immediately turn its attention to the next game against Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, 1st  February, 2023.
